The Old Course stands as a masterpiece of golfing tradition, recognized as one of Portugal’s most iconic courses. Designed by the renowned Frank Pennink and opened in 1969, it has evolved into a premier golfing destination, offering a challenging layout set against a backdrop of mature pine trees and rolling fairways. With its championship conditions and historic charm, it’s the ultimate test for golfers seeking both beauty and challenge.
Millennium Course was opened in 2000, comprising nine brand new holes and a refurbished inward half which had previously formed part of the original 27-hole Laguna Course. It is a contains a more open layout than the other courses, although holes 3-7 wind between pine trees, featuring narrow landing areas that require greater accuracy. Several lakes enrich the remaining holes, especially on 17 and 18, where simple course strategy is always the best approach.
Opened in 1976, Pinhal Course was also originally designed by Frank Pennick, before Robert Trent Jones Sr made significant refinements to the layout in 1985. At 6,353 metres from the white tees, the Pinhal’s undulating parkland layout provides an exciting challenge for golfers, with many of the fairways lined by pine trees. One of the most remarkable features about the course is the stunning panorama provided from the clubhouse, which extends over the excellent driving range and additional practice facilities.
Laguna Course is set apart by the number of holes which convey characteristics of a traditional links layout. American golf course Architect Joseph Lee was responsible for designing the course over low-lying coastal terrain, where he was able to establish 18 holes with a wide variety of playing conditions. Continuous upgrades have been made to the layout over the years, although it still retains all the appeal of a modern test of golf, through strategically positioned bunkers and several water hazards.
